But, you are not alone - because we’ve helped so many people that feel the same way you do right now. We have many years of experience and training in helping people with depression therapy because of just how common it is in our society. You can feel better. Many of our clients have found great success by coming into counseling.
How common is depression?
Depression affects millions of people in this country. It is always troubling, and for some people it can be disabling. Depression is more than just sadness or “the blues.” It can have an impact on nearly every aspect of a person’s life. People who suffer from depression may experience despair and worthlessness, and this can have an enormous impact on both personal and professional relationships.
When a person suffers from depression, it can affect every part of his or her life, including one’s physical body, one’s behavior, thought processes, mood, ability to relate to others, and general lifestyle.
How is our Depression Counseling different?
Talking alone isn’t enough. It can help you feel better temporarily, but we work with you to make changes that last. We have spent years training & getting certified in therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, combining it with a skills-based approach such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy - just to name a few - and this therapy approach is not only effective, but can work relatively quickly for depression treatment for many people. Here’s why : Our minds chatter on all day long. It’s impossible to be aware of each & every single thought, and while we dislike talking in absolutes, we can venture to say it’s just impossible for us to be THAT aware simply by telling ourselves we’ll watch what we think. It takes practice to work on a new way of being, but it isn’t hard & it isn’t all that time-consuming. While it isn’t usually a problem, our thoughts are behind the steering wheel driving to our emotional destination.
Along with changing our thoughts, we must also change our responses. Talking alone oftentimes isn’t enough. It’s not that our responses are bad, it’s just they can be unhelpful. That’s why through a skills-based approach, we can give you the tools you need.
And once you have those tools, you have them for a lifetime.
The great news is counseling for depression is proven to be one of the best ways to feel better!
Research studies have shown that medication alone is not always the answer - or enough. In fact, the most effective way to treat & recover from depression is a combination of the two.
Many people can be misled into thinking taking a pill can change, or “fix” their depression, but the reality is medications often need to be changed because they can stop working. Medications also don’t address the root cause of the depression by themselves. Medication can be life-saving & it absolutely has its place in depression treatment.
But, think of medication as a more shorter- term solution - Depression therapy is the longer term solution.
What if I don’t have the energy to do Depression counseling?
Any change takes action. While we don’t have a magic wand to suddenly give you the energy to get Depression counseling, we can ask you if you had the energy to read this far? And, we ask this with complete compassion & understanding! We know it feels like you don’t - but this is one of our points. How we feel isn’t always the truth about how things actually are.
All you need to do is reach out to us using the button below, and we will walk you through the rest. We can’t push the button for you - but - we can be beside you as you take each step. People who are diagnosed with clinical depression have a combination of symptoms from the following list:
Feelings of hopelessness, even when there is reason to be hopeful
Fatigue or low energy / Much less interest or pleasure in most regular activities
Low self-esteem / Feeling worthless
Excessive or inappropriate guilt
Lessened ability to think or concentrate / Indecisiveness

When a person is suffering from depression, these symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. This means that the person’s family and social relationships, as well as work life, are impaired.
When a person is suffering from depression, symptoms such as these are not the result of a chronic psychotic disorder, substance abuse, general medical condition, or bereavement.
Physical Causes
Depression may be associated with physical events such as other diseases, physical trauma, and hormonal changes. A person who is depressed should always have a physical examination as part of the assessment process to determine the role of physical causes. We ask all our clients to have a complete physical through their primary physician if they have not yet done so.
We are trained and experienced in a variety of depression treatment approaches. The following are just some of the modalities we utilize:
Cognitive Therapy
You learn to identify and change unproductive thought patterns by observing your feelings and learning to reframe and develop a more helpful perspective.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Utilizing the skills taken from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, we can help reduce depression by teaching and building skills that focus on being more present-focused, assertive and identify thoughts that may lead us into unproductive thought cycles. In turn, we can teach your strategies to help develop new ways of coping and how to be more aware, and in charge of, your thoughts and behaviors.
Relaxation Training/Mindfulness
Many people with depression benefit from self-hypnosis, guided visualization, and progressive relaxation techniques to help combat any stress that may be causing and driving the depression.
